Chamois close encounters

June 16th, 2007
12 May - Hiked up and slept on a pretty much nameless minor peak
(1900m altitude, 1000m vertical hike) near a very nice lake just
over the DE/AT border. Lloyd and slept on very comfortable grassy
glade just at tree line and had an incredible lake view. We met a very
friendly Chamois that got extremely close then followed us around
some crumbling couloirs. I think he may have been defending his turf.

Alpine Salamander

June 16th, 2007

Hiked and slept on a peak in northern Tirol called Daniel. I had planned a snowboard descent of
this peak during winter but never had the conditions at the same time that I had a free day.
Summit at 2300m, vertical hike is quite large at 1300m. Slept overnight right on the
summit ridge with Lloyd. It was a cold night so he was inside the bag which makes him a
restless dog - constantly moving and waking me up. I was sleeping on snow which made it a
little colder. Before bed I saw an Alpine Salamander and during the day a glider doing
circles around the summit.
